Thai Basil Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground chicken or finely diced boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Thai chilies, finely sliced (or 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups fresh Thai basil leaves (or sweet basil if unavailable)

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and sesame oil.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the garlic and Thai chilies and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the onion and bell pepper and cook for 2–3 minutes until slightly tender.
  5. Add the chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon if using ground chicken, until fully cooked.
  6. Pour the sauce over the chicken and stir well to coat evenly.
  7. Fold in the Thai basil leaves and cook for 30–60 seconds, just until wilted.
  8. Serve immediately over steamed jasmine rice.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Top with a crispy fried egg.
  • Serve with cucumber slices and lime wedges.
  • Garnish with additional Thai basil and sliced chilies for extra flavor and heat.
