Thai Basil Chicken Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground chicken or finely diced boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 Thai chilies, finely sliced (or 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes)
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 cups fresh Thai basil leaves (or sweet basil if unavailable)
For the Sauce:
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp fish sauce
- 2 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and sesame oil.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the garlic and Thai chilies and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the onion and bell pepper and cook for 2–3 minutes until slightly tender.
- Add the chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon if using ground chicken, until fully cooked.
- Pour the sauce over the chicken and stir well to coat evenly.
- Fold in the Thai basil leaves and cook for 30–60 seconds, just until wilted.
- Serve immediately over steamed jasmine rice.
Serving Suggestions:
- Top with a crispy fried egg.
- Serve with cucumber slices and lime wedges.
- Garnish with additional Thai basil and sliced chilies for extra flavor and heat.
