Damon by VR Tennent
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hey all you out there in Cyberspace,
Damon by VR Tennent is a gripping tale that blends elements of romance and crime, keeping readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
While I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I found that it took a bit of time for the story to fully unfold. Around half of the book was dedicated to setting the plot and building the story, which may not appeal to readers seeking instant gratification. However, once the narrative delved into the nitty-gritty, I was completely hooked.
One aspect of Damon that truly stood out to me was the inclusion of a crime storyline alongside the romance plot. The crime elements added depth and intrigue to the story, although I must warn readers that some scenes can get rather gory. On the flip side, the romance aspect of the book was spicy and passionate, adding an extra layer of excitement to the narrative.
As for the characters, I had mixed feelings. Damon and his morally grey friends were intriguing and captivating, adding depth to the story. However, I found myself conflicted about Emma, the surrogate turned love interest. While I admired her strength and resilience, I struggled to fully connect with her character, especially given the circumstances surrounding her relationship with Damon. I would have liked to see more development in their romantic relationship, as it felt somewhat rushed and lacking in depth.
That being said, once Damon and Emma's romantic relationship was established, it was undeniably electric. Their dynamic was compelling, with Emma serving as Damon's calm and Damon providing her with a safe space.
Overall, Damon had me hooked from beginning to end, especially with its intertwining crime storyline. Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster ride, as this book will tug at your heartstrings and leave you reaching for the tissues. I would recommend Damon to fans of the crime/romance genre, particularly those who enjoy tropes such as age gap, mafia, and love after loss.
