Korean Beef Bowl Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Beef:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 or lean)
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, sliced
For the Sautéed Onions:
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp soy sauce
For Serving:
- 3 cups cooked white or jasmine rice
- Sliced cucumbers (optional)
- Fried eggs (optional)
- Extra sesame seeds and green onions for garnish
Instructions:
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and lightly caramelized. Stir in 1 teaspoon soy sauce and set aside.
- In the same skillet, heat sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Add garlic and ginger and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and gochujang. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce coats the beef.
- Stir in sesame seeds and green onions.
- Serve the Korean beef over warm rice and top with sautéed onions.
- Garnish with additional sesame seeds, green onions, cucumbers, or a fried egg if desired.
