Korean Beef Bowl Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Beef:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 or lean)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced

For the Sautéed Onions:

  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp soy sauce

For Serving:

  • 3 cups cooked white or jasmine rice
  • Sliced cucumbers (optional)
  • Fried eggs (optional)
  • Extra sesame seeds and green onions for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and lightly caramelized. Stir in 1 teaspoon soy sauce and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, heat sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  3. Add garlic and ginger and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and gochujang. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce coats the beef.
  5. Stir in sesame seeds and green onions.
  6. Serve the Korean beef over warm rice and top with sautéed onions.
  7. Garnish with additional sesame seeds, green onions, cucumbers, or a fried egg if desired.
