Homemade Corn Dogs Recipe
Homemade Corn Dogs
Ingredients:
- 8 hot dogs
- 8 wooden skewers
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 6 cups vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
- Pat the hot dogs completely dry with paper towels. Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, leaving enough of the skewer exposed to hold it.
- In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a thick, smooth batter forms.
- Pour the batter into a tall glass, filling it about three-quarters full. This makes dipping the hot dogs easier.
- Heat the oil in a deep pot to 350°F.
- Dip each hot dog into the batter, turning to coat completely. Let excess batter drip off briefly.
- Carefully lower the battered hot dog into the hot oil. Fry for 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally, until deeply golden brown.
- Remove with tongs and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Repeat with the remaining hot dogs, allowing the oil to return to 350°F between batches.
- Serve warm with ketchup, yellow mustard, or your favorite dipping sauce.
