Steak with Creamy Portobello Garlic Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 ribeye or sirloin steaks (about 1 inch thick)

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter

  • 2 cups sliced portobello mushrooms

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1/4 cup beef broth

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme or 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Season steaks with salt and pepper.

  2. Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steaks 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness. Remove and let rest.

  3. In the same pan, add mushrooms and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  4. Add garlic and thyme, sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

  5. Stir in beef broth, scraping up any browned bits. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.

  6. Lower heat, add cream and mustard. Stir and simmer until sauce thickens, 3-5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

  7. Serve sauce over the rested steaks.

Perfect with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
